Building Codes
Fremont County, Wyoming does not have a county wide zoning ordinance that applies outside of any incorporated boundary. Fremont County has also not adopted any form of building code (except for septic systems, see below). There are certain types of zoning and or building codes that may apply to specific areas within Fremont County. They are:
- 1. The Wind River Reservation is zoned. The entire reservation is zoned
Residential/Agricultural. Any other use must obtain a variance from the Joint Tribal
Council. Administered by the Shoshone and Arapahoe Joint Tribal Council (307) 332-6625
- 2. South Pass City is subject to a historical zoning resolution. The exterior appearance
of all buildings must comply with the standards of the zoning regulations.
Administered by the Fremont County Planning and Rural Addressing Department.
- 3. Areas near Hudson and Lander are designated as official flood zones by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency and are subject to the Fremont County Flood Plain
Zoning Resolution. Administered by the Fremont County Planning and Rural
Addressing Department.
- 4. All new small wastewater (septic) systems that generate less then 2,000 gallons per
day of sewage must be approved and permitted by the Fremont County Planning and
Rural Addressing Department.
- 5. All cities and towns have joint subdivision review with the county within one mile of
Municipal boundaries.
- 6. Wyoming Statutes require that the State Fire Marshal review and approve any plans or
plans for remodeling prior to beginning any work for:
- Buildings and structures owned/leased by governmental entities.
- Buildings for general public access which exceed one story and/or 5,000 sq ft.
- Buildings used for child care centers for more than 11 children.
- Buildings used as public bars, public lounges, restaurants, night clubs, lodge halls theaters, churches or public meeting places regardless of size.
